New server details

We have a new TF2 server, hosted by Multiplay, which will be replacing our old one. It’s smaller, but overall, of a much higher quality than our old one. The new IP is: 85.236.109.16:27515

The password and rcon remain the same as before. We also have a new vent server that comes with this as well: 85.236.97.17:3974

This will come into full effect when our GameServers.com contract ends in 10 days.

A workable schedule

We’ve taken a step back to a time when we used to have regular set days for matches and practices. In recent months we have abandoned a rigid schedule in favour of booking matches when there were enough people online, which seemed to be every night. For a number of reasons, this hasn’t turned out to be the best move and we now see the need to return to the original method of set match nights.

Therefore, starting from next week (20.04.09) we will use Monday, Thursday and Saturday as our match nights, and Tuesday as a dedicated practice night. We have three Medics who can cover these nights, one taking each match night and Jason taking the extra practice night.

Hopefully this will give us more matches whilst lowering the burden on the leadership.

One Anniversary it would be a crime to forget.

260px-happybdayWe’re 1 on 9th April. The squad was formed almost one year ago and to celebrate we’re having a night of TF2 for former and current squad members.

All ex-squaddies are welcome, lets try and fill the server (both servers if we can!).

Wireplay Season 2 Final Table

Season two ended in defeat, and this cost us the Division.Still, WRYY lost on the final day of the season which gave us second place, and we’re happy with that.

We started the season with 5 straight wins, and very convincing wins at that. We then drew our penultimate match and lost the last game. Did we take our foot off the pedal or eye off the ball. Who knows? Who can tell?
We’ll hopefully get a promotion next season and we’ll also enter the 7v7.
Let’s just hope that the Sandman has been wiped from the face of the Earth before then.

Critical Mass

It’s a good thing that Wireplay 6v6 Season 2 is coming to an end, because we’ve just signed up to some new competitions. We’ve entered the Scout 2on2 and the Highlander cups, both with ETF2L.  The whole squad has been entered into Highlander, and we have a limited Scout only roster for the Scout 2on2. If you are interested in the 2on2 then please contact an admin super quick.
In other news the Enemy Down PC Gamer UKeSA Open Division Season One has just won the longest League name competition, gratz to them. Round 1 has started this week, and we have our first game this Sunday.

Busy times ahead Phoenix.

Less Spam, Fewer Crits, More Rockets

Big TF2 update today (03.02.09) which makes several ‘behind the scenes changes’.  Notably crits will be fewer, splash damage will have a lower range of damage (which as a Medic is very much welcomed) and Soldiers get 4 more rockets.  There are a load of other changes, of which details can be found here.

One other very useful change is the ability to limit classes using Tournament Mode, which means that Vanilla servers can switch Snipers off!

UKeSA Open Division Season One

Phoenix have signed up for Season One of the UKeSA (UK eSports Association) TF2 Open Division. This is an attempt to see how many UK teams can get together and play in an Enemy Down league. It’s a test for the TF2 Community. If all goes well the league will be adopted and formalised, giving some legitimacy to TF2 in the UK. No longer will games such as CS:S and COD be considered ’serious’ games at the expense of TF2.

The league begins in March. Interested players should ensure that they’re signed up on the ED site.

New Year New Season

As 2009 gets into gear, Phoenix is preparing to start two competitions:  Wireplay 6v6 Season Two and ETF2L 6v6 Season Four.

We’ve been placed in Division 7 for Wireplay and Division 6B for ETF2L. This is our second season in Wireplay and we’re going to push for promotion this time. ETF2L is a new league for us. We’ve got a set 8 man squad for ETF2L which should give us greater stability. The whole squad is available for Wireplay.

Now is a good time to welcome some new faces as well - RAgE, Tanque and LPn have all joined over the festive period. Welcome all.

Phoenix Chocolate Server

One server just isn’t big enough to hold the amount of gaming juice deposited by the Phoenicians, so now we have another one.  Classy has very kindly donated his converted Left 4 Dead server to the cause, and we think he’s very nice for doing so.

The new server will be used for custom maps and will feature all kinds of modded goodness.  Expect the main Phoenix server to remain Vanilla and continue to be the main server for events and squad matches.

Happy Christmas Phoenix

We had a great Christmas themed Phoenix Nights last night which featured some top class croonerage from yours truly.

Hope you all get some great games and gadgets from Santa (fingers crossed for my G15).

We have Season 2 of the Wireplay 6v6 starting in January, so don’t forget to practise your 1337 skillz over the festive period.  We won’t have any official events until January, but hope to see some of you online.

Happy Christmas, thanks to all for a great 2008.
